In 1984, after years of playing monthly golf tournaments on a rustic grassless layout, othe people of Pozoblanco convinced the town and regional authorities to finance the construction of Spain's first municipal course. Carlos Luca de Tena's design is mainly flat, following the contours of the Cabeza Oliva nature reserve within which it is located. The two types of fairways grass are indigenous and the sprinkler psystem ensures they are well maintained. Pozoblanco is 80 kilometres north of Córdoba.
