Opened in 1992, the golf course at the Montecastillo Hotel & Golf Resort was designed by Jack Nicklaus, who competed here with his sons Jackie and Gary when the course hosted the 1994 Turespaña Master Open de España.
Moantecastillo traces its path through rolling terrain offering splendid views from raised tees and ample targets at carefully sited greens. "I like to see what I'm getting" explains Nicklaus. The 18th is a case in point. The elevated tee looks down 40 metres over a broad sweep of faiway bordering a lake to the left with the green just beyond. The Montecastillo hotel and clubhouse overlook the final hole. Montecastillo is currently the home of the Volvo Masters, which was won here by Lee Westwood in 1997 and Darren Clarke in '98.
